High Blood Pressure – Who’s Getting Singled Out.

In this episode of Beyond Clinical Walls, Dr. BCW discusses a crucial health topic: hypertension and its relationship with race. She begins by explaining that high blood pressure, or hypertension, is often a silent condition, meaning its symptoms may not be noticeable until the condition has advanced. Symptoms can include headaches, fatigue, shortness of breath, blurred vision, lightheadedness, and nosebleeds. Dr. BCW urges people of color diagnosed with high blood pressure to discuss their medication options with their healthcare providers and to inquire about the reasons behind their prescribed medications.

She recommends the UCSF study “Race-Based Prescribing for Black People with High Blood Pressure Shows No Benefit” for more information on this topic.
